a response to "Speak" By Laurie Halse Anderson
As I close the doors behind me I pray that It will shut everything out of my life, gone forever. The hole in my chest will not cease until the day I know that he is defeated. The devil in disguise, you haunt me with your vicious memories. The novel, “Speak” by Lauren Halse Anderson will make you realize that tragedies could be right around t he corner.
Although someone could be beautiful on the outside deep down they could be a demon ready to attack. As Melinda is enthralled that Andy Evans is taking in interest in her, his breath taking looks soon cascade into a deathly trap. The sad reality of today is that girls strive for attention, strive for beauty and thrive for perfection. Teenage girls would take the risk of dating a drop dead gorgeous guy she barely knew to feel special, to feel loved and to feel superb.
Even though young girls would walk to the edge of a cliff where with one miner slip you would plummet to you death just to feel special, you could end up in the sad position that Melinda was caught in. As she fell into Andy’s trap there was no way she could escape. When you hear stories on the news about young girls that have gone missing and have been raped you may throw it to the back of your mind but the likely hood that something as tragic as that could happen to you isn’t as low as you think. According to Ronet Bachman, Ph.D. there is about 500,000 confirmed cases of rape each year, this does not account for the incidents that have not been reported.
As much as you want to believe that beauty is always kind this novel will really open your eyes to the reality of today’s world. Love is symbolized by the precious rose; it’s velvety alluring petals hide the sinister evil of it’s thorns.

Free at Last
We walk on the clouds,
Looking down upon the mistakes that we've made;
But we carelessly crush them
Underneath the swift steps of our bare feet.
We walk on the clouds,
Anticipating our all time low;
But the stair way we have built up
Only guides us to heaven
We walk on the clouds,
Only to drag our luggage with us to slow us down;
Yet the suitcase full of regrets and mistakes
Convert into a heavenly white dove.
We walked along the clouds,
Trying to find redemption on the way,
But that peaceful white dove flew away;
Free at last
Looking down upon the mistakes that we've made;
But we carelessly crush them
Underneath the swift steps of our bare feet.
We walk on the clouds,

But the stair way we have built up

Trying to find redemption on the way,
But that peaceful white dove flew away;
Free at last
Who you are isn't Who you've Been
As the frigid mid November breeze sneaks past your window you sit alone only to feel the reminisces of what you had done. The frustrating words slyly slip off your tongue, past your lips and smoothly into the suffocating air, "If only what I know now I knew then." Although your mind is bloated with anger and diverse emotions you manage to vanish off into a engaging memory of you and the tiny neighbor boy carelessly catching fireflies and running wild till you'd fall asleep; pure Innocence. When you read the alluring lyrics to the song, "Innocent," by Taylor Swift you will experience a heartwarming sensation in which reassures you that ‘today is never too late to be brand new.'
Although teenagers thrive to be older they are still very naive. "Wasn’t easier in your lunch box days? Always a bigger bed to crawl into," Taylor swift states in the first pre-chorus of her chart topping hit meaning that when you were younger life was carefree. We grow up only looking up to our elders; we would walk a threadlike tightrope over lava to be just like them. As we grow older and wiser our lives become more complex each time we open our eyes upon a new day. We go through life forgetting to smell the pearly pink roses only to remorse upon the modest things we have passed by
While we desperately grasp onto our childhood we struggle to keep our innocence as well. Growing up is full of surprises and everyone makes careless mistakes. "Who you are is not what you did, you're still an innocent," states Taylor many times throughout the song. She's speaking to a loved one who's made a mistake and is hurting. Even though you made mistakes in your past, it doesn't mean you're a different person. You can change and become better, leaving behind your mistakes and looking forward to an enhanced future; learn to forgive and forget.
Although you may not think so, you can effortlessly turn your life around because "today's never too late to be brand new." For example you could sit unaccompanied and repentance the mistakes you've made or get up and reconstruct what you have shattered. Just never forget that "who you are is not who you've been, you're still an innocent."

Never Expect Anymore Than the Worst
As I look up into your confident blue eyes I see comfort. Something that I've been yearning for, pleading for, praying for. The frigid cool fall winds numb me to the bone but its strength still cannot overcome the pain that you cast upon me. Your sweet yet sinful skin glides against mine soothing my every worry, curing my deepest pains, hiding my deepest fears. Your angelic fingers circle my back in which is frozen to the touch. I coil my arms around you like a constricting boa killing it's pray; strong and life dependent.
I flash back to when you held me in your arms that warm April night, just our innocent soles feeding off of each others eternal love. I was lost inside the waves of your blue eyes that are as complex as the gleaming blue sea; I sailed off with you effortlessly.
I can feel your breath floating along the back of my neck; leaving me speechless. Then our eyes meet, like fate they kidnap my heart; stealing it with every breath that smoothly slips past your sweet lips. As your lips meet mine an uncountable number of velvety white elegant butterflies escape from my chest pulling an innocent smile along my porcelain face. I sweetly squash my lips together trying to clutch it all in.
As I float above the horizon my tears glide off my cheeks, they create a storm that downpours on everything inside of me. It floods my body, mind and soul; slowly drowning me and everything I've ever acknowledged. I was kissed by an angel fallen from heaven; a kiss of a life time, a kiss of a dream, a kiss that could have only been stolen by you from me.
